Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter cubed
  • ¾ cup cold buttermilk plus extra if needed
  • melted butter optional, for brushing
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough optional shortcut

Instructions

  • Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3–5 minutes. Line the basket with parchment paper or a silicone liner.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the cold cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work it into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Pour in the cold buttermilk and stir just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Gently pat it into a rectangle about ½ to ¾ inch thick. Cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter or glass.
  • Place the biscuits in a single layer in the air fryer basket, leaving space between each one.
  • Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 8–10 minutes, or until the tops are golden and biscuits are cooked through.
  • Brush warm biscuits with melted butter if desired. Serve immediately.
  • For store-bought dough, skip to air frying step and cook as directed above.

Notes

Store leftover biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Reheat in air fryer at 300°F for 2–3 minutes. To freeze, wrap cooled biscuits in foil and store in freezer-safe bags. Reheat from frozen at 325°F for 5–6 minutes. Try fun variations like adding cheddar and chives, cinnamon sugar, or everything bagel seasoning before cooking.
